GREEN STORIES... tips on going green and living green are shared below. Many thanks to those of you who have written in to share your story and inspire others.

We have had a full energy inspection and as a result, we installed several low energy light bulbs to replace standard incandescent units installed by the builder. We were also informed and have cleaned the intake screens on our air conditioning compressor units. Last year we enrolled in The Optional Volunteer Power Reduction System where thermostats were installed and at peak use periods, our A/C's may be turned off for a period of up to 2 hours at a time. We have benefited in cost savings without significant discomfort.

I use fans in my home, 6 ceiling and 2 portables. Air movement allows me to keep the thermostat at 82 and remain comfortable in the summer and at 68 in the winter with a light sweater. I have solar screens in my windows and close my blinds and doors to all rooms on the east side of my home in the morning to keep out the sun and on the west side in the afternoon.

I drive my parents crazy because I'm a green freak. Every plastic bottle I use, I keep in my backpack and I make sure they get recycled. From one day of school I can come home with up to 5 bottles and our recycling bin gets pretty packed. I must be doing something right because my parents just replaced the whole house with ecobulbs.

Just small efforts... I use both sides of my paper in my printer. When I receive faxes I use the back side in my printer. Waste no paper. I now buy "green copy paper". I always saved tissue papers...why throw out good gift paper. Now instead of being called cheap, I'm green.

We have constantly looked for and applied conservation principles from 1988 to today. The combination of upgraded insulation, energy star appliances, habit changes, active solar, and other changes have made a tremendous difference for us.

Our office always carpools to any events that we have to go. In our business that is a big deal since there is normally something going on almost every evening of the week.

I am now printing everything double sided. I replaced all my lightbulbs. Drive less and will keep doing all I can to be green.
